Drip edge is the L-shaped metal flashing installed along eaves and rakes to carry runoff clear of the fascia and sheathing edge. The short leg hooks over the roof edge and kicks water outward, while the longer flange lies on the deck beneath the underlayment and shingles.

This profile is formed with a hemmed outer edge and finished white on the exposed face, so it reads as a clean line against white fascia, soffit or gutter. Sections are nailed through the deck flange along the eaves and lapped end to end as the run continues.

Fitted at the eaves it also closes the gap between the deck and the gutter, keeping wind-driven water from getting behind the gutter back and wetting the fascia board.
