A strike plate is the mating hardware for a lockset or latch, mortised or fastened into the door frame so the latch bolt and deadbolt have a hardened pocket to land in. On hollow metal frames the strike sits in the prepared cutout and transfers the force of the closing door, and of anyone pushing against it, into the jamb rather than into the latch itself.
