Knock-down frame components ship flat and are joined on site, which lets the head be handled through finished corridors and set into an opening after the wall is framed. The head is tabbed or notched at each end to interlock with the jambs; the assembled frame is then plumbed, squared and anchored to the rough opening before the door is hung and the strike and closer hardware are fitted.

The 6-1/8 in. dimension is the frame throat, which matches the wall thickness it straddles, and the 36 in. dimension corresponds to the door width the head spans.
