Handrail Up Easing Fitting
An up easing is a short curved handrail fitting used to join a section of rake (sloped) handrail to a level run or to a newel post, carrying the rail smoothly upward through the transition instead of leaving a hard mitered break. It is milled to the same profile as the handrail it serves so the joint reads as a continuous line once fitted and finished.
Fittings of this type are typically installed with rail bolts or dowel screws and glue, then sanded flush at the glue line so stain or paint carries across the joint. Because the easing sets the geometry where the handrail meets a landing, post or wall return, it is normally cut and dry-fit on site to suit the actual pitch of the stair.
