A concrete masonry unit intended for load-bearing and non-load-bearing masonry walls laid up in mortar. Units of this type are cast from a dry-cast concrete mix and cured to a uniform size so that courses stack consistently with a standard mortar joint.

Concrete block is used where a dimensionally stable, non-combustible wall assembly is wanted, and the cores can be filled with grout, reinforcing steel or insulation depending on the wall design. The surfaces take parge coat, stucco, plaster or direct-applied furring, and the block can be cut with a masonry saw or scored and split for closures and openings.
