G4101 Oak Newel Post, 3-1/2 in. x 3-1/2 in. x 58 in.
A newel post is the anchor point of a stair balustrade. It carries the end of the handrail and resists the lateral load that the balusters and rail pass along, so it is fastened into the stringer, floor framing, or landing rather than simply set on the tread. Posts of this section are used at starting steps, landing turns, and rail terminations.
This post is milled from solid oak, a dense closed-grain hardwood that machines cleanly, holds a crisp profile, and accepts stain and clear finish in the same way as oak treads, rail, and balusters. It is supplied unfinished so it can be cut to the required height and finished to match the rest of the stair.
G4101 is the pattern number for the post profile, which allows it to be matched to handrail, balusters, and fittings from the same dimensional stair-part series.
