USG ready-mixed drywall joint compound, supplied wet in a resealable plastic pail. The material comes premixed to a spreadable consistency, so it can be pulled straight from the bucket onto a hawk or pan and worked with a taping knife without batching powder and water on site.

Ready-mixed compounds are air-drying rather than chemically setting: they stiffen as water leaves the film, which keeps working time open and allows a coat to be reworked while it is still wet. Because each coat shrinks a little as it dries, joints are built up in successive passes - a bedding coat that embeds the tape, then fill and finish coats - with full drying and light sanding or sponging between passes.

The compound is an interior finishing material and must be kept above freezing in storage; repeated freeze-thaw cycling breaks the emulsion and ruins the mix. Finished joints and skim coats should be primed before paint so the compound and the surrounding paper face take colour evenly.
