Clear pine board is a finish-grade softwood stock cut from the knot-free portions of the log, surfaced on four sides and sold in standard nominal sizes. Because the face is free of knots, pitch pockets and other visible defects, it takes paint and stain evenly and does not telegraph knot bleed through a finished coat.

Pine works easily with hand and power tools, holds a crisp profile when routed or moulded, and accepts nails and screws without splitting when fasteners are set back from the ends. It is an interior board intended for trim carpentry, cabinet and shelving work, and shop-built millwork rather than structural framing or exposed exterior use.

As with all kiln-dried softwood trim stock, boards should be stored flat and allowed to acclimate to the conditions of the space before being cut and installed.
