Furring channel is a cold-formed steel hat-shaped section used to create a level plane for attaching gypsum board, plaster lath or other finish materials. The hat profile gives a flat face for fastening with flanges that bear against the supporting structure, so the finished surface is held off the substrate.

Installed horizontally or vertically across studs, joists, masonry or concrete, the channel corrects irregularities in the framing and provides a consistent fastening line at regular spacing. It is also used to build out a shallow cavity for running services or for adding insulation behind a wall or ceiling finish.

This is 25 gauge material supplied in single lengths, cut and lapped on site as the layout requires.
