Colonial casing is the traditional stepped-and-curved trim profile used to finish the perimeter of door and window openings, covering the joint between the jamb and the wall finish. The #18 profile is a wide colonial pattern with a stepped back edge and a gently contoured face that throws a soft shadow line along the opening.

This casing comes factory primed, so the face and profiled edges are already sealed and ready for filling, caulking and a finish coat of paint. Priming also reduces the moisture movement that causes miters to open, and it gives nail-hole filler and caulk a uniform surface to bond to.

Casing is typically installed with a reveal of 1/8 to 1/4 in. off the jamb face, mitered at the head corners and fastened through the flat back with finish nails into the jamb and framing.
