Hollow core doors use a thin skin over a perimeter frame and internal lattice, so they weigh considerably less than solid core or solid wood slabs. That makes them practical for closets, bedrooms and other passage openings where sound isolation is not a priority. The slab ships unhinged and unbored, so the installer sets the hinge gains, latch bore and any handing to suit the existing jamb.

The face is ready for paint after light sanding and priming. Trim allowance is limited to the solid perimeter stiles and rails, so the slab should be sized to the opening rather than cut down significantly.
