Gray expanded polystyrene board is a closed-cell foam product that holds its shape, cuts cleanly with a utility knife or fine-tooth saw, and can be fastened with plastic-cap nails, insulation washers, or foam-compatible adhesive. Panel edges are butted tight and the joints taped or sealed so the insulating layer performs as a continuous plane.

As with all rigid foam, the board must be covered by an approved finish or thermal barrier in occupied spaces, and adhesives, primers, and sealants used with it should be checked for polystyrene compatibility.
