Metal doors of this type use a formed steel face skin over an internal core and stile-and-rail framing, which keeps the slab dimensionally stable and resistant to warping, swelling and shrinking as humidity and temperature change through the season.

"Reverse" refers to the handing and bevel of the slab rather than to any difference in construction. The lock edge, hinge mortises and strike preparation are machined as a mirror image of the standard hand, so the door hangs on the opposite jamb or swings in the opposite direction from the standard unit. Handing has to be confirmed against the existing frame before installation, since a steel slab cannot be re-machined on site the way a wood door can.

The face skin is normally supplied in a factory primer coat, ready for a finish coat of exterior-grade paint once the door is hung and adjusted.
