5/4 in. x 12 in. x 11 ft. Oak Stair Tread
Solid red oak stair tread stock milled from hardwood and supplied in a long length so treads can be cut to the rise-and-run of the stair being built. The long blank lets a carpenter get several finished treads out of one piece and keeps grain and colour consistent across a flight.
Oak is the traditional material for finish treads because of its hardness, tight grain and even response to stain and clear finish. The 5/4 thickness is the standard nosing thickness for residential stairs, and the face is wide enough to cover a typical tread depth with the nosing projection intact.
Treads are supplied unfinished so the nosing profile, returns, mitres and notching for skirt boards or stringers can be cut on site. Sand and finish after installation for a continuous sheen across the flight.
