Polyurethane is a clear protective topcoat for interior wood, used over bare, stained or sealed surfaces to build a hard film that resists abrasion, scuffing and household spills. It is the standard finish coat on floors, stairs, trim and furniture where the wood grain is meant to show through.

This is the satin sheen, which reflects less light than semi-gloss or gloss and helps disguise minor surface imperfections, brush marks and everyday wear. Supplied in a bucket for floor work and other large-area jobs where a quart or gallon would run short.

Polyurethane is applied in thin coats with a brush, pad applicator or lambswool applicator, with a light scuff sand and dust removal between coats to promote adhesion. Follow the recoat and cure times printed on the container label, and keep the work area ventilated while the finish is drying.
