Milled from solid hardwood rather than finger-jointed or wrapped stock, it takes stain and clear finish evenly and can be sanded, eased and hand-blended at joints. Long lengths let a stair builder run a continuous rail through a flight and returns with fewer splices; cuts are made on site to match rake angle, and rail bolts, fittings or hanger hardware complete the connections to newels and walls.
