A galvanized steel joist hanger sized for a doubled 2 in. x 8 in. carrier member, used to hang joists, headers and trimmers from a beam, ledger or rim board. The hanger transfers the load of the supported member into the face of the carrying member, replacing toe-nailing with a nailed or screwed steel seat.

The formed steel body wraps the end of the double member, with a seat that supports the bottom of the joist and side flanges punched with nail holes for fastening into both the header and the joist. Installation is face-mount: the flanges bear flat against the supporting member and every specified hole is filled with the connector fastener called for by the manufacturer.

Joist hangers are used in pairs with matched members, so the hanger width must correspond to the actual width of the built-up joist. A hanger for a doubled 2x member is wider than a single-ply hanger of the same depth and is not interchangeable with it.
