A quarter turn is a stair fitting used to carry a continuous handrail around a right-angle change in direction, most often at a landing or where the rail turns onto a balcony run. It is machined to the same profile as the straight handrail it joins so the transition reads as one continuous piece once glued and sanded.

This fitting is milled in oak, a close-grained hardwood that machines cleanly, holds a crisp profile edge, and takes stain or clear finish consistently with oak straight rail and newels. Fittings of this kind are typically joined to the rail with a rail bolt and glue, then the joint is dressed flush before finishing.

Because the fitting arrives unfinished, it can be sanded and finished on site alongside the rest of the stair parts for a uniform color match.

Key Features

  • Quarter turn fitting for a 90 degree change of handrail direction

  • Profiled to match straight handrail of the same pattern for a continuous run
  • Machined ends prepared for rail bolt and glue assembly
  • Supplied unfinished for on-site sanding, staining or clear coating
  • Sold individually so fittings can be counted per turn on the stair layout
