Stucco Corner Bead
Stucco corner bead is the accessory that forms and protects an outside corner in a cement plaster assembly. It is set over the lath at the arris before the base coat goes on, and its nose gives the plasterer a straight, continuous screed line to work to from both directions so the finished corner comes out plumb and true rather than hand-shaped.
The bead has perforated or expanded flanges on each leg. Those flanges are fastened or wire-tied through the lath into the framing or substrate, and the base coat is pushed through the openings so the mortar keys around the metal and locks the bead into the plaster thickness rather than simply sitting behind it.
Once the corner is floated out, the nose of the bead remains the highest point on the corner and takes the traffic. That makes it the wear part of a stucco corner on exterior walls, columns, soffit returns and any location where a plastered arris is exposed to bumps, tools and equipment.
