A door guard is the swing-bar style secondary latch mounted on the inside face of an entry door, most often specified for hotel, motel and apartment rooms. A bar pivots from a base plate on the door and captures a post anchored to the jamb, allowing the door to open only a few inches so the occupant can see and speak to a caller before releasing it.

The hotel type pattern is the familiar hospital-arm design: a surface-mounted post on the frame, a slotted swing bar on the door, and a keyway in the bar that lets the bar be lifted off the post when the guard is not in use. Because it is surface-applied, installation is a matter of screwing the two pieces to the door and jamb in alignment, with no mortising required. It works alongside the primary lockset rather than replacing it.

This unit is finished in US3, the finish designation for bright polished brass, so it matches brass-finished levers, knobs, hinges and viewers on the same opening. It is supplied carded for retail display, packaged as a single each.
