This piece is milled from oak and plowed along its top face, so the balusters drop into the groove rather than being toe-nailed to the tread or cap.

The matching fillet ships with the rail. Fillet is the thin strip of stock cut and fitted between balusters to fill the open plow, leaving a continuous, finished line along the rail once the balusters are set and the joints are filled and sanded.

Oak takes stain evenly and is the usual choice where the balustrade is finished clear or stained to match treads, newels and handrail of the same species.

Key Features

Solid oak stock, suited to clear or stained finishes and matching other oak stair parts

Plowed top face accepts square-bottom balusters without toe-nailing

Fillet strip included to close the plow between balusters

Continuous long length allows a raking run to be cut in one piece

Milled profile matches standard shoe rail geometry used with square balusters

Can be mitered and coped where the balustrade changes direction or pitch

Applications

Base rail for square balusters on open stair runs

Balustrade over a kneewall or half-wall cap

Level balcony and landing rail sections

Interior stair remodels replacing toe-nailed balusters

Matching oak stair parts packages

Product Details

Product Type: Plowed shoe rail with fillet

Material: Oak

Profile Size: 3/4 in. x 2-1/2 in.

Plow Width: 1-1/4 in.

Length: 12 ft.

Fillet: Included

Sold By: Each

Specifications

Size

12'

Material

Oak

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/7743/4195/files/3-4-in-x-2-1-2-in-x-12-ft-oak-plowed-shoe-rail-with-fillet-o604512p.webp?v=1790259871
https://arch-9365.myshopify.com/products/3-4-in-x-2-1-2-in-x-12-ft-oak-plowed-shoe-rail-with-fillet-o604512p
