minwax-1-gal-polyurethane-semi-gloss-p1sg
Minwax 1 gal. Polyurethane, Semi-Gloss

Polyurethane is the workhorse clear topcoat for interior woodwork: a film-forming resin that cures to a hard, continuous layer over bare or stained wood and takes the abrasion, spills and handling that the wood underneath cannot. Minwax lists this finish for interior projects such as woodwork, furniture, doors, cabinets and floors.

The semi-gloss sheen sits between satin and full gloss. It reflects enough light to read as a finished, slightly lustrous surface and to wipe clean easily, without the mirror return of a gloss coat that telegraphs every sanding scratch and dust nib. On trim and cabinetry it is the usual compromise when a satin coat looks too flat next to painted work.

Polyurethane is applied in thin coats over a clean, sanded, dust-free surface, with a light scuff-sand between coats for mechanical adhesion. Two or more coats are normal, with the final coat left to harden before the surface is put back into service. It can go over cured oil-based wood stain or directly onto sanded bare wood.

Key Features

Clear protective topcoat for interior wood, applied over bare or previously stained surfaces

Semi-gloss sheen: a moderate light reflection that hides minor surface imperfections better than gloss

Cures to a hard film that resists scratches, scuffing and household spills

Minwax offers the finish in warm semi-gloss, gloss, satin and ultra flat sheens, so sheens can be mixed across a job from one product family

Clear, non-pigmented film that lets grain and stain colour show through

Brushed, wiped or pad-applied in thin coats, with a light sanding between coats for adhesion

Contractor-size container suited to floors, full trim packages and cabinet runs rather than single small repairs

Compatible over cured Minwax oil-based wood stain as part of a stain-and-topcoat system

Applications

Interior trim, casing, base and other millwork

Cabinet doors, face frames and shelving

Furniture, tabletops and desks

Interior doors and handrails

Hardwood floors and stair treads

Windowsills and built-ins

Topcoating stained wood on finish carpentry work

Product Details

Brand: Minwax

Product Type: Polyurethane clear wood finish

Sheen: Semi-Gloss

Opacity: Clear

Use Location: Interior

Substrate: Bare or stained interior wood

Application: Brush, foam brush or pad applicator

Coats: Multiple thin coats with light sanding between

Specifications

Volume

1 GAL

Brand

Minwax

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/7743/4195/files/minwax-1-gal-polyurethane-semi-gloss-p1sg.webp?v=1790734601
