Oak Stair Tread

Solid oak stair tread stock supplied in a long length, intended to be cut to width and depth for individual steps in a staircase. Oak is the traditional choice for treads because of its hardness, tight grain and resistance to denting under foot traffic, and because it takes stain and clear finish evenly.

The 5/4 nominal thickness is the standard stair-tread thickness, giving enough material to carry the nosing profile at the front edge and to hold up over an open riser or a stringer notch. The blank arrives square-edged, so the nosing can be routed, the tread mitred at returns, and the back edge scribed to the riser during installation.

Finishing is done after fitting. Treads are normally sanded, sealed and top-coated on site, or prefinished off the stair and set in place, and are frequently paired with painted risers for a two-tone stair.

Key Features

Solid oak, a dense closed-grain hardwood well suited to stair treads and other wear surfaces

5/4 nominal thickness, the conventional dimension for residential stair treads

Long single-piece blank that can yield more than one tread from a run

Square edges ready to be routed to a bullnose or other nosing profile

Accepts stain, dye and clear coatings with predictable results typical of oak

Machines, drills and screws cleanly for fastening to stringers or over an existing stair

Sold by the piece for cutting to the exact run and width of the stair

Applications

Interior straight-run and landing staircases

Replacement treads over worn or carpeted stairs

Open-sided stairs with mitred return nosings

Basement and attic stairs being upgraded from softwood

Shop-built stair assemblies and site-built stringer stairs

Cut-down use as shelving, window stools or bench tops where a thick hardwood blank is wanted

Product Details

Product Type: Stair Tread

Material: Oak

Nominal Thickness: 5/4 in.

Nominal Width: 12 in.

Length: 15 ft.

Edge: Square, unprofiled

Finish: Unfinished

Sold By: Piece

Specifications

Dimensions

5/4" x 12" x 15'

Material

Oak

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/7743/4195/files/arch-placeholder-coming-soon_fac981c6-5725-41a8-b124-816ff4fc5367.webp?v=1790259906
