tuff-stuff-chain-door-guard-brass-608781000525
Tuff-Stuff Chain Door Guard, Brass

A chain door guard is a simple secondary latch for a swinging entry door: a slide plate mounts to the door face and a chain-and-ball assembly mounts to the jamb, so the door can be opened a few inches to see or speak to a caller while the chain holds it from swinging wide. It is released from inside only, so it functions as an occupancy device rather than a lock, and it is commonly added alongside a keyed lockset and deadbolt on apartment and residential entrance doors.

This Tuff-Stuff guard is a brass unit, a finish and material long used on door hardware for its corrosion resistance and its match to brass knobs, hinges and strikes. Installation is surface-mounted with screws through the two plates, which makes it a straightforward retrofit on an existing door and frame without mortising or boring.

The two-piece format means alignment matters more than fastening: the jamb plate sits on the hinge-side of the stop so the chain runs square to the door when closed, and both plates want solid wood or blocking behind them rather than casing alone.

Key Features

Brass construction and finish, which resists corrosion and tarnish better than plated steel in humid entryway conditions

Chain-and-ball style guard: the ball end slides into a keyhole slot in the door plate and travels in a channel to limit door swing

Operated and released from the inside only, giving an occupant a way to answer the door without fully unlatching it

Surface-mounted two-piece design - door plate and jamb plate - so no mortising or boring of the door is required

Works as a secondary device in addition to the primary latch or deadbolt rather than as a replacement for either

Non-keyed guard, sold as Tuff Stuff model TUF50 in polished solid brass

Mounting screws are supplied with the unit

Finish coordinates with brass knobs, hinges, strikes and escutcheons on the same opening

Applications

Apartment and multifamily unit entrance doors

Single-family residential front and side entry doors

Hotel, rooming house and dormitory room doors

Retrofit security upgrades on existing inswing doors

Back and service doors where an occupant wants to open partially to identify a caller

Interior doors requiring a simple privacy restraint

Product Details

Brand: Tuff-Stuff

Model: TUF50

Product Type: Chain door guard

Subtype: Chain

Material / Finish: Brass

Keying: Non-keyed, inside release

Mounting: Surface-mounted, screw fixed to door and jamb

Door Type: Inswing entry and interior doors

Specifications

Material

Brass

Brand

Tuff-Stuff

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/7743/4195/files/tuff-stuff-chain-door-guard-brass-608781000525.webp?v=1790734490
