usg-4-5-gal-ready-mixed-joint-compound-jc5gl
USG 4.5 Gal. Ready-Mixed Joint Compound

USG ready-mixed drywall joint compound, supplied wet in a resealable plastic pail. The material comes premixed to a spreadable consistency, so it can be pulled straight from the bucket onto a hawk or pan and worked with a taping knife without batching powder and water on site.

Ready-mixed compounds are air-drying rather than chemically setting: they stiffen as water leaves the film, which keeps working time open and allows a coat to be reworked while it is still wet. Because each coat shrinks a little as it dries, joints are built up in successive passes - a bedding coat that embeds the tape, then fill and finish coats - with full drying and light sanding or sponging between passes.

The compound is an interior finishing material and must be kept above freezing in storage; repeated freeze-thaw cycling breaks the emulsion and ruins the mix. Finished joints and skim coats should be primed before paint so the compound and the surrounding paper face take colour evenly.

Key Features

Premixed and ready to use from the pail, with no powder-and-water batching required on site

Air-drying formulation that hardens as water evaporates, leaving an open working time for tooling and reworking

Consistency can be adjusted with small additions of clean water for hand knives or mechanical finishing tools

Dries to a surface that sands and sponges easily for a smooth, level joint

Builds in multiple coats over tape, fasteners and bead to compensate for drying shrinkage

Supplied in a resealable pail so unused material can be closed up and kept workable between coats

Interior use only; protect from freezing in storage and transit

Accepts primer and finish paint once the compound is thoroughly dry

Applications

Embedding paper joint tape at tapered and butt joints in gypsum board

Fill and finish coats over taped joints, fastener heads and metal corner bead

Skim coating wall and ceiling surfaces to level texture variation before priming

Patching cracks, dings and fastener pops in existing drywall and plaster surfaces

Finishing interior partitions, soffits and ceilings in residential and commercial fit-out

Repair work around outlet cut-ins, trim removal and small openings

Product Details

Brand: USG

Product Type: Drywall Joint Compound

Form: Ready-Mixed (wet, premixed)

Hardening Method: Air-drying

Container: Resealable pail

Use Location: Interior

Specifications

Weight

61.7 LB

Volume

4.5 GAL

Brand

USG

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1012/7743/4195/files/usg-4-5-gal-ready-mixed-joint-compound-jc5gl.webp?v=1790734561
