10 in. x 8 in. x 18 in. Hollow Core Concrete Block
A hollow core concrete masonry unit (CMU) used for laying up load-bearing and non-load-bearing masonry walls. The two-cell hollow design reduces the weight of each unit compared with a solid block of the same size, making it easier to handle on the scaffold while leaving open cores that can be reinforced and grouted where the wall design calls for it.
Units are laid in running or stack bond with mortar in the bed and head joints. The cores align vertically from course to course so vertical rebar can be dropped in and the cells filled with grout at bond beams, pilasters, control points and anchorage locations. Face shells and webs are cast to consistent dimensions so courses run level and plumb with standard mortar joints.
The block takes parging, stucco, direct-applied finishes or furring and drywall, and accepts standard masonry accessories such as ladder and truss joint reinforcement, anchors and ties.
