Landing tread is the transition moulding that finishes the floor edge at the top of a stair run or at an intermediate landing. One edge carries a rounded bullnose nosing that matches the profile of the stair treads below it, while the back edge is milled flat and thinner so finish flooring can butt into it and sit flush.

This piece is milled from solid oak, a dense closed-grain hardwood commonly used for stair parts because it wears well underfoot and takes stain and clear finish evenly. It is supplied unfinished so it can be cut to length, scribed to the surrounding trim and finished on site to match treads, risers and flooring.

Landing tread is installed after the stairs are framed and the subfloor is down. It is typically glued and blind-nailed or face-nailed and plugged, with the nosing projecting past the face of the riser or skirt below.
