Deep Leg Track (Deflection Track) – Steel Framing Head-of-Wall Track
Deep Leg Track, also known as Deflection Track, is designed to accommodate vertical movement (deflection) at the head of wall in steel framing systems. It allows for structural movement of the building without transferring load to the wall assembly, helping prevent damage such as cracking in drywall partitions.
Used in conjunction with deflection clips, this track is installed at the top of studs, with clips attached flush to the stud ends to allow controlled movement within the track.
Deep Leg Track is ideal for interior non-load-bearing wall systems and can also be manufactured in structural grades for applications such as exterior curtain wall systems.
Key Features
- Allows for vertical building deflection at head of wall
- Prevents stress transfer to wall assemblies
- Compatible with deflection clips for proper movement control
- Available in multiple gauges for light to heavy-duty applications
- Suitable for interior framing and curtain wall systems
- Galvanized steel for corrosion resistance
Important Installation Notes
- Not intended for axial load-bearing walls
- Bridging at the top of wall is required when using deflection track
- Deflection details should be specified by the project’s structural designer based on building movement requirements
Applications
- Interior non-load-bearing drywall partitions
- Head-of-wall deflection systems
- Commercial framing projects
- Curtain wall framing (structural grades)
