A galvanized steel joist hanger sized for nominal 2 in. by 12 in. framing lumber. The hanger wraps the end of the joist and transfers its load into the supporting header, ledger or beam, replacing toe-nailing with a formed steel seat and nailed flanges.

The stamped seat holds the joist at the correct bearing height while the flanges are fastened to the carrying member. Nail holes are punched through the flanges and seat so the connector can be filled out with the fastener type and pattern called for by the connector manufacturer's installation instructions. Heavy-duty hangers of this type use a thicker gauge of steel than standard light-duty hangers.
