Handrail Over Easing Fitting
An over easing is one of the standard machined handrail fittings used to change the pitch of a continuous stair rail. Its convex curve carries the rail from the rake of the stair flight into a level run, letting the handrail turn at a landing or terminate into a newel without a hard mitered break.
Fittings of this kind are milled to the same profile as the handrail they join, so the top and side contours line up across the joint. They are normally installed with a rail bolt or dowel screw and glue, then the joint is dressed and sanded so the transition reads as one continuous piece once finished.
Ordered by the piece, as a component of a matched stair rail assembly rather than a stand-alone part.
Key Features
- Convex easing curve that transitions handrail from a pitched rake section to a level section
- Machined to a standard handrail profile so top and side contours align at the joint
- Joined with rail bolt or dowel screw and adhesive, then sanded flush for a continuous run
- Used in place of a cut miter, producing a curved rather than angular change in pitch
- Can be cut back on either end to set the finished pitch and height at installation
- Sold individually as a component of a matched handrail and fitting system
Applications
- Transitioning a raking stair handrail into a level landing rail
- Terminating a continuous handrail into a newel post at the top of a flight
- Balcony and landing rail runs that change pitch
- Repair or extension work matching an existing profiled handrail
- Continuous-rail stair systems built from machined fittings rather than mitered cuts
