4 in. x 36 in. Oak Saddle Threshold
An oak saddle is the flat hardwood threshold piece set in a door opening or between two rooms to cover the joint where flooring changes. It carries traffic across the transition, hides the exposed edges of the finish flooring on either side, and gives the door a defined stopping line at the floor.
Saddles of this type are milled from solid oak, a dense, close-grained hardwood that resists wear at a point where foot traffic is concentrated. The blank is typically supplied unfinished so it can be cut to the exact opening width and then stained, sealed or polyurethaned to match adjoining floors, casing and jambs.
Installation is normally into the opening between the jamb legs, cut square or scribed to the jamb profile, then bedded in construction adhesive or fastened and plugged. The edges may be eased or bevelled on site to soften the step where floor heights differ slightly.
