Gator Shampoo is Alliance Gator's general-purpose surface cleaner for hardscape work, sold as a concentrated liquid that is diluted with water before use. It is formulated to lift ground-in dirt out of the surface of concrete pavers, wetcast units and natural stone so the paving reads at its natural colour again rather than the grey film that traffic, soil and weathering leave behind.

The manufacturer specifies a mixture of one part product to four parts water, applied to a pre-wetted surface with a pump sprayer or watering can, scrubbed with a stiff bristle brush and rinsed off before it can dry. It contains no muriatic or hydrochloric acid, washes off with water, and according to Alliance is not intended as an efflorescence cleaner - that mineral haze needs a dedicated acidic product.

Because it does not attack polymeric sand joints or surrounding planting, it suits maintenance washing on finished installations as well as clean-down before sealing. Alliance advises testing on a small hidden area first, working out of direct hot sun, and keeping the paver surface wet from start to finish.

• Does not negatively affect polymeric sand joints, so it can be used on installations already sanded
