Welded wire mesh supplied as a flat sheet in 10 gauge wire, used as secondary reinforcement in concrete flatwork. The wires are electrically welded at each intersection, so the sheet acts as a grid that holds its spacing while concrete is placed and consolidated around it.

Mesh of this type does not carry structural load the way sized and detailed rebar does. Its job is crack control: once the slab cures and shrinkage or thermal movement opens hairline cracks, the mesh keeps the pieces tied together and limits how far those cracks can open or offset. It is set on chairs or dobies so it sits within the slab rather than resting on grade.

Flat sheets stack and store without the rebound and re-rolling problems of coiled mesh, and they cut cleanly with bolt cutters or a cut-off wheel. Sheets are lapped at least one grid square at the joints and tied so the reinforcement stays continuous across the pour.
