A gutter strainer is a wire basket that seats in the drop outlet where the gutter trough meets the downspout. Leaves, needles, seed pods and roof grit collect on top of the dome instead of washing into the pipe, so the outlet stays open and water keeps moving toward the discharge point rather than backing up over the front bead of the gutter.

This one is formed from aluminum, which does not rust and stays light enough that the basket holds its shape without loading the outlet or staining the fascia. The open wire pattern passes a full flow of water while stopping the bulky debris that causes most downspout blockages.

Strainers are consumable maintenance hardware. The basket lifts out by hand for cleaning at the same time gutters are flushed, and it drops back into the outlet without fasteners, sealant or tools.

Key Features

• Aluminum construction that will not rust or corrode in standing water and wet debris
• Wire basket seats in the gutter drop outlet to keep leaves and coarse debris out of the downspout
• Open wire form allows full drainage while trapping bulky material on the surface of the dome
• Lifts out by hand for cleaning and reseats without fasteners, adhesive or special tools
• Domed profile holds debris above the outlet opening so water can continue to drain around it
• Compatible with aluminum gutter and downspout systems without risk of dissimilar-metal corrosion
• Sold individually, so quantities can be matched to the number of downspout outlets on a run

Applications

• Drop outlets on residential K-style gutter runs
• Half-round gutter outlets feeding round downspouts
• Gutter systems under heavy tree cover where leaves and needles collect
• Replacement of corroded or crushed strainers during gutter cleaning and maintenance
• New gutter and downspout installations on re-roof work
• Low-slope and porch roof gutters where a single outlet carries the whole run
