Asphalt fabric membrane is a narrow roll of reinforcing fabric used with asphalt roof cement, mastic or hot asphalt to build a reinforced repair or flashing detail. The fabric is embedded in a bed of cement and then covered with a second coat, so the cured patch has a fibrous core that resists splitting as the roof moves.

The narrow roll width suits linear work — seams, laps, curb and wall flashings, pipe penetrations and cracks — where a full-width sheet would be wasted. Fabric is cut to length from the roll, worked into the wet asphalt with a brush or trowel to remove air, and top-coated until the weave is fully saturated.

It is a repair and detailing material rather than a stand-alone membrane; it always works as part of an asphalt-based system and depends on full embedment to perform.
