Landing tread is the milled oak nosing that finishes the edge of a floor at the top of a stair run or around a stairwell opening. One edge carries a bullnose profile that matches the front of a stair tread, while the back of the piece is rabbeted or reduced in thickness so finish flooring can run up to it and sit flush.

Milled from solid oak, the piece takes stain and clear finish the same way oak treads and flooring do, so the nose at the landing reads as a continuation of the stair. It is supplied unfinished and in long lengths, to be cut to the opening and sanded and finished on site with the rest of the stair parts.

Installation is straightforward joinery: scribe and cut to length, fasten down to the subfloor or landing framing, and set the finish flooring into the reduced back edge. Ends are typically returned or mitered where the tread meets a skirt board or turns a corner at an open stairwell.
