Super Thoroseal is a powder, cement-based waterproof coating for concrete and masonry. It is mixed on site with clean water and brushed on, where it works into the pores of the substrate and cures as a hard mineral layer bonded to the wall rather than as a film sitting on top of it, the way a masonry paint would.

The manufacturer's literature describes it as suitable for interiors and exteriors, above or below ground, sealing out dampness, resisting low-level hydrostatic pressure, stopping seeping water and cutting radon gas infiltration. The cured surface is a decorative white finish that can be left as brushed or worked with the brush into swirls and textures. It is applied with a tampico fiber brush, worked into the surface for a penetrating seal, and normally run in two coats with the wall lightly dampened before the second.

As a cementitious coating it depends on a clean, sound, absorbent substrate: efflorescence, dirt, oil and existing paint have to come off first, and holes, cracks and open joints are patched before coating. Thoro's sheet is explicit that the product must not be applied to painted surfaces, nor to frozen or frost-covered walls or when the ambient temperature is below 40 degrees F.
