Solid red oak board milled for interior trim, casework and furniture work. Red oak is a domestic open-grained hardwood with a pronounced ring-porous figure and a warm pinkish-brown cast, and it is the standard choice where stain-grade hardwood trim has to match existing oak flooring, stair parts or cabinetry.

The stock is surfaced and squared for direct use as a nominal one-by board, so it can be ripped, planed or moulded on site without further preparation. It machines cleanly, holds screws and glue joints well, and takes stain and clear finish predictably, though the open pores usually call for a filler or a sealer coat where a glass-smooth finish is wanted.

As with any solid hardwood, the board should be allowed to acclimate to interior conditions before it is fitted, and joinery should account for seasonal movement across the width.
