An access door provides a removable opening in finished drywall or ceiling assemblies so that valves, cleanouts, shutoffs, junction boxes and other concealed building services stay reachable after the wall is closed up. The molded plastic body consists of a frame that is fastened to the surrounding surface and a hinged or lift-out panel that closes flush against it.

Plastic construction will not rust or corrode, which suits it to bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and other damp locations where a painted steel panel would eventually stain. The surface accepts paint, so the panel can be finished to match the surrounding wall or ceiling once it is installed.
