Hot-rolled structural steel angle with unequal legs, supplied in a 20 ft. length. The L-shaped cross section gives stiffness in two planes from a single piece, which is why angle is the default choice for lintels, bracing, frames and edge protection where a rolled shape is needed but a beam is not.

Unequal-leg angle is normally oriented with the long leg vertical when used as a lintel or shelf support, and the short leg becomes the bearing or attachment face. The material is mild carbon steel, so it can be cut, drilled, punched and welded with standard fabrication equipment, and it accepts paint or galvanizing once fabrication is complete.

Supplied as bare mill-finish steel. Uncoated steel will develop surface rust in outdoor or damp conditions, so exposed applications usually call for a primer and finish coat or hot-dip galvanizing after cutting and welding.
