A door sweep is the strip that closes the gap between the bottom of a door and the threshold or finish floor. This one is a brush-type sweep: an extruded aluminum holder in a silver finish carrying a dense row of nylon bristles, screwed to the face of the door bottom so the bristles ride on the floor.

Bristles are the right choice where a solid rubber or vinyl blade would bind. They flex over uneven thresholds, saddles, tile-to-carpet transitions and slightly out-of-level slabs, and they keep contact as the door swings without the drag and squeal a fin seal produces. The result is a barrier against drafts, blown dust, leaf litter, insects, light and some of the noise that passes under a closed door.

Installation is surface-mount and non-destructive: hold the sweep so the brush just touches the floor with the door closed, mark the screw locations, and fasten through the holder. The aluminum can be cut to length with a hacksaw and the brush trimmed with shears if the door is narrower than the sweep.
