Henry Blueskin VP100 48 in. x 100 ft. Air Barrier Membrane
Blueskin VP100 is Henry's self-adhered, vapor-permeable water-resistive air barrier for wood-framed residential and multi-family walls. It combines an engineered film with a permeable adhesive on a split-back poly release liner, so the sheet bonds fully to the substrate rather than being stapled or capped like a mechanically fastened housewrap.
Applied over exterior sheathing and behind the cladding, the membrane forms both the drainage plane and the continuous air barrier of the wall assembly. Full adhesion closes the air gaps and billowing paths that lead to uncontrolled leakage, while the permeable adhesive lets sheathing dry outward instead of trapping moisture in the stud bay. The adhesive self-seals around nails and fasteners driven through it, which matters at furring, trim and cladding attachment.
Sheets go on in weatherboard fashion from the base of the wall upward, with side and end laps shingled so water runs out over the course below. Rolling the surface after placement sets the adhesive and removes fishmouths. Terminations, penetrations and rough openings are then sealed and flashed with compatible Henry sealants and flashings to keep the barrier continuous.
Key Features
- Self-adhered peel-and-stick membrane with split-back poly release film, fully bonded to the substrate without mechanical attachment
- Vapor permeable: 33 perms water vapor permeance by ASTM E96, Method A, allowing the wall to dry outward
- Air permeance of 0.004 cfm/ft2 at 75 Pa tested to ASTM E2178 and CAN/ULC-S741
- Permeable adhesive self-seals around nails and fasteners driven through the membrane
- Drainage efficiency greater than 95% measured to ASTM E2273
- Blue film, 19 mils nominal thickness; minimum application temperature +20 degrees F and service range -40 degrees F to +180 degrees F
- Rated for up to 150 days of exposure before the cladding is installed; not intended for permanent UV exposure
- Installed in shingled weatherboard courses from the bottom of the wall up, rolled after placement to set adhesion and remove wrinkles
Applications
- Continuous water-resistive air barrier over plywood and OSB sheathing on wood-framed houses and multi-family buildings
- Field membrane over exterior-grade gypsum sheathing behind siding, stucco, brick veneer and rainscreen cladding
- Air barrier over concrete, concrete block, steel, aluminum and galvanized metal substrates prepared per the manufacturer's surface requirements
- Tie-ins and transitions at foundations, corners, soffits and substrate changes where a fully adhered barrier is needed
- Wall assemblies where the barrier must integrate with sill pan and rough-opening flashings at windows and doors
- Re-siding and retrofit work where sheathing is exposed and a peel-and-stick barrier is preferred over mechanically fastened wrap
