Quarter-inch gypsum panel — the thinnest standard drywall thickness — with a noncombustible gypsum core wrapped in paper facing. Unlike 1/2 in. and 5/8 in. board, it is not intended as a primary single-layer wall or ceiling surface; it is a skin board used to resurface, laminate over, and bend.

The reduced core thickness makes the panel far more flexible than heavier board, so it can be bent to a radius over curved framing or arched openings, typically in two laminated layers to build back thickness and stiffness. It is also the usual choice for covering damaged, textured, or out-of-date plaster and drywall without tearing out the existing surface.

Panels take joint compound, tape, and paper or metal corner bead the same way any gypsum board does, and finish out for paint or wallcovering. Edges are tapered for flat, concealed joints.
