SPEC MIX Type S is a factory-batched masonry mortar supplied as a dry preblended powder that is mixed with clean water at the job site. The cementitious binder and dried masonry sand are proportioned and blended under plant control, so the mason is not measuring cement and sand by the shovel and the mix stays consistent from bag to bag across a wall.

Type S is the middle-strength designation in the standard mortar family, sitting above Type N for compressive and flexural bond strength while retaining the workability and water retention a bricklayer needs for a full day of laying. It is the usual choice where masonry carries meaningful load, sees lateral pressure from soil or wind, or sits at or below grade.

The bagged format suits hand loading into a paddle or drum mixer for repair work, small walls and patch-ins, where a silo or bulk bag would be impractical.
