RC-1 resilient channel is a light-gauge steel furring member used to decouple gypsum board from the framing behind it. The single-leg, offset profile is screwed through its mounting flange into studs or joists, and the drywall is then fastened only to the opposite drilled-and-slotted leg, so the panel is never in direct contact with the structure.

That break in the assembly is what reduces the transfer of airborne and structure-borne sound through walls and ceilings. The same channel also serves as a leveling furring member, giving a flat plane for board over out-of-plumb studs or irregular joists.

Formed from galvanized steel in 25 gauge and installed perpendicular to framing at regular spacing. Sections are lapped and screw-fastened where runs continue past a single length.
