Pattern #50 is a primed moulding profile supplied in fixed lengths for interior trim work. The milled face is finished with a factory primer coat, so the piece arrives ready for sanding at the joints and a finish coat of paint once it is installed.

Mouldings of this class are used to cover the transition between two surfaces — a wall and a door or window opening, a wall and the floor, or a butt joint between materials — and to give that transition a finished, repeatable profile. Because the stock is pre-primed rather than clear-finished, it is intended to be painted rather than stained.

Cuts are made with a fine-tooth blade on a mitre saw; inside corners are usually coped or mitred and outside corners mitred, then the piece is nailed off with finish or brad nails and the holes and seams filled before painting.
