Primed pine board is a finger-jointed or solid softwood trim board that arrives with a factory-applied primer coat, ready for finish paint. The primer seals the wood face and edges, reducing the grain raise and sap bleed that show through when raw pine is painted on site.

Boards of this type are used wherever a paint-grade flat trim member is wanted: casing, base, frieze, rake, fascia, shelving and box-out work. Because the substrate is pine, it cuts, nails and sands like any softwood trim and takes a fastener without pre-drilling in most cases.

Prime the cut ends and any exposed edges before installation, then fill, caulk and apply the finish coats. Primed stock is intended for painting rather than staining.

Key Features

  • Factory primer coat on faces and edges, ready for finish paint
  • Pine substrate cuts, sands and fastens like standard softwood trim
  • Primer seals the grain to limit raise, sap bleed and uneven paint absorption
  • Flat board profile suitable for casing, base, shelving and built-up trim
  • Sold by the piece in a nominal one-by thickness
  • Cut ends should be primed on site to keep the seal continuous

  • Frieze, rake and fascia on painted exterior trim details
