A door sweep is a surface-mounted weatherseal that closes the gap between the bottom of a door and the threshold or sill. It consists of an aluminum carrier strip that fastens to the face of the door, holding a flexible insert that drags lightly across the threshold as the door swings.

The aluminum carrier is finished in silver and is intended to be cut to length with a hacksaw for doors narrower than the stock size. Slotted fastener holes allow the sweep to be raised or lowered after installation so the seal contacts the threshold evenly without binding against the floor.

Sealing the bottom of an exterior door reduces air infiltration, wind-driven water, dust and insect entry, and is one of the simplest retrofits for a door that whistles or lets daylight through at the floor.
