A metal door head is the horizontal top member of a knock-down hollow metal door frame. It spans the rough opening above the door and ties the two jamb legs together, carrying the head stop and rabbet that the door slab closes against.

Knock-down steel frame components ship flat and assemble on site, with the head interlocking or screwing into the tops of the jamb legs so the frame can be set into an existing masonry, stud or drywall opening.
