An access door is the finished, removable opening a trade leaves behind after closing up a wall or ceiling, so the valve, cleanout or junction box buried in the cavity can be reached again without cutting drywall. This Hometai unit is molded from ABS plastic with a surface-mount frame and a hinged door panel, giving a clean rectangular opening in a painted or papered surface.

The plastic body is the reason it turns up in bathrooms, laundry rooms and mechanical closets: ABS does not rust, so damp or occasionally wet locations do not stain the frame or seize the hinge the way a painted steel panel can. The frame laps over the cut edges of the board, which means the rough opening does not have to be perfect to look finished.

Installation is adhesive-based rather than screwed through the face, and the door panel is reversible so the swing can be set to suit the wall. Sold individually.
